From the Golf Academy …

BACK TO SCHOOL…. is the theme at the golf academy this fall. The Wintergreen Golf Academy has just rolled out two new programs – the half day school and the “build your own school.” Each school has been designed to pinpoint the area(s) that you want to improve upon within a compressed time period. If you are having difficulty with a certain area of your game, tell us. At the golf academy, you tell us what you want to work on!

IF PRIVATE TUTELGE IS WHAT YOU LIKE…Members can still take advantage of the great private instruction in the valley. With the tempera-tures cooling down, make sure to utilize the golf academy’s covered hitting bays. Members can work on their games with a staff professional and remember that the Member-Only Series is the best value going! Use this time of the year to fix your golf swing or short game shots that plagued you this summer so you can hit the course running for next season!

Play with the Pro Series…

Friday, November 4 will be the culmination of this popular event. If you haven’t played this season, please make plans to do so, it’s a great way to begin the weekend. Play nine holes of golf starting in the late afternoon with a staff professional and follow that up with a drink and an evening at the Stoney Creek Bar& Grill.

  The leader board is getting tight at the top! Money leader Joe Miller is holding a slim lead but has his hands full as the end of the season comes to a close.

Inspirations Weekend is coming up next weekend! We have an inspiring and fun-filled weekend planned and hope that you can join us. The retreat is designed for women to learn, share and enjoy each other’s company, Friday, November 4 through Sunday, November 6, 2011. Featured speakers will present topics ranging from stress management, healthful eating, gaining clarity in one’s life to the challenge and rewards of achieving simplicity in all that we do. Yoga classes, spa treatments at the Spa at Wintergreen and culinary treats round out the program. The Resort has partnered with UVA Health System and Afton Mountain Vineyards to present this special event.

The weekend kicks off with a Friday welcome luncheon. Popular life coach Nicole Greer of The Vibrant Coach will lead the group in the opening session, “Clarity,” a lively dialogue on how to lead a life with purpose and meaning. Afternoon options include spa treatments, yoga and personal, one-on-one coaching sessions. An evening reception will feature Afton Mountain wines.

On Saturday, a morning session on “Emotional Brain Training” will be conducted by Cynthia Moore, Clinical Nutrition Manager with UVA Health Systems. This session will feature a a method that gives the power to create a profound and lasting improvement in our lives by helping us better understand stress and how it impacts every day, particularly with overeating.

Nautilus National Book Award winner Marietta McCarty will discuss simplicity during Saturday’s luncheon and afternoon program. McCarty will present ideas and philosophies on how a fulfilling, contented life stems from vigor and clarity of mind. Time has been set aside for spa treatments and resort exploration prior to dinner and an evening program. The weekend wraps up on Sunday with yoga, a brunch presentation, “The Four Elements – Earth, Water, Wind and Fire,” and additional spa treatments, if desired.

Wintergreen Ski Patrol Wins National Outstanding Large Alpine Patrol Award for 2010-11

The Wintergreen Ski Patrol, primarily responsible for the rescue and emergency care of customers, employees and visitors to Wintergreen Resort, is the nation’s winner of the Outstanding Large Alpine Patrol Award for 2010-11 as named by the National Ski Patrol.

  This is the second time the Wintergreen Ski Patrol (WSP) has earned the prestigious honor, which is named after Charles Minot ‘Minnie’ Doyle, founder of the National Ski Patrol. WSP first earned the award in 1989.

  All WSP patrollers are members of the National Ski Patrol, and are certified as Outdoor Emergency Care Technicians. In addition to their emergency skills, patrollers are well versed in various special rescue techniques, including toboggan handling, chairlift evacuation and technical rope rescues.

  To be eligible for consideration of the national honor, WSP first was named the Southern Division winner of the Outstanding Large Alpine Patrol Award. WSP learned of winning the national honor at the National Ski Patrol’s Fall Officers’ Meeting in Kingsport, Tenn.
