25 Million Gallons Pumped into Snowmaking
By Brian Chase
The great news just keeps coming – check out the latest update below from the snowmaking gurus at Wintergreen.
=====================Wow! The combination of impressive cold for early December and plenty of water in Lake Monocan has allowed us to pump just under 25 million gallons of water so far! For the first time ever, we are making snow on a three sections of our mountain. If all goes well, we should be skiing Eagles Swoop, both Cross Trails, all of Dobie, Potato Patch, Upper Cliffhanger, Hydraulic and Lower Wild Turkey this Friday. Our recent investment in new snow guns is paying off big this year. This will be the first time ever that we have been able to open Highlands opening weekend.

Natural Snow Descends on Wintergreen
By Brian ChaseCold Air and Snowmaking Return to Wintergreen
By Brian Chase
After a bunch of rain (water we will be using to make snow!), cold air has returned to Wintergreen – mountain-top temperature is sitting at 32 degrees and falling this morning. The forecast is for “Snowmaking” with temperatures for the next seven days expected to be in the low twenties at night and in the mid thirties during the day. Yes, it is possible to make snow when temperatures are above freezing as long a dew points cooperate. We’ll be shredding, skiing, and tubing before you know it.
